About The Interiors Concierge
The Interiors Concierge is a creative interior design studio, founded by Joel Donovan, offering services from full-scale interior design to smaller projects including furniture design / reupholstery, window dressings and consultancy. Joel has also worked on landscaping projects.
Joel’s experience is a rare blend of high drama heritage, hands-on restoration expertise and contemporary decorative confidence. His early inspiration came from his grandmother, a true tastemaker with a sharp eye for antiques and a love of rich, expressive interiors.
Following his formal education at an independent interior design school in London, Joel undertook a two year internship in 2013 at the renowned Holland Park Studio NH Design, led by legendary Nicky Haslam. This introduced him to a rarefied world of high-end residential interiors, shaped by wit, theatre and unapologetic glamour.
This foundation was followed by a formative decade with cult British brand House of Hackney. Joining in its early days, Joel witnessed founders Javvy M Royle and Frieda Gormley build the brand into a global name. In a multifaceted role based in London, he travelled across Europe building and styling sets, assisting on photoshoots and working closely with the directors on a daily basis. In 2019, his role evolved into a residency at Trematon Castle, the Grade II* Duchy estate serving as both home and creative hub for the brand. There, he worked on the meticulous restoration of the main house and its outbuildings, as well as content creation for the brand and the development of luxury hospitality experiences.
A pivotal interlude in 2018, took Joel globally working as a studio assistant to Anouska Hempel, absorbing her unmistakable sense of cinematic grandeur and exacting attention to detail.
Now independent, The Interiors Concierge brings together heritage sensitivity, decorative confidence and brand-savvy storytelling. With a background spanning aristocratic glamour, cult retail and listed building restoration, Joel represents a new generation of British interior designer: historically aware, visually literate and unafraid of risk. The work of indepedent artists and makers, using sustainable materials and the creation of comfortable spaces that reflect the needs of his clients are at the centre of his ethos.
